Yate v THORNBURY A (6-4)

21 Oct 2021

Stephen

Mark, in typical Mark fashion, played phenomenally. His offensive game was stunning, putting a lot of pressure on both Joe and Andy. He won our first point of the season against Joe Sheppard, and took a game off of Andy Cox.
- Gavin, considering he had only been to one practice session since we opened, also played brilliantly: fantastic rallies full of stampy and impervious defense. He misinterpreted our team challenge of "let's see who can get the most points" by taking Joe to 10-12 and 18-20 in successive games.
- Mark and Gavin played the doubles and started off very strongly, taking the first game. A cat-and-mouse game went to five sets, where Yate were able to clinch the win.
- Stephen was also there, eating jelly babies and mildly heckling his teammates. He hit one backhand so unexpectedly hard that it made him jump and he lost the point.
As Yate only had two players, the final result was 6-4 to Yate. It was a really fun evening.
